I have a co-worker who is 27 and she called off work on a friday because she had a "temperature" of 104. Monday she comes to work looking perfect, nothing wrong, not even talking about it. I think she FOR SURE faked it. I thought if an adult had a 104 temperature you should be in the emergency room, and it could cause brain damage? What do you guys think?
Answer:
It's possible that that she may have had a high fever like that and is feeling much better today.
But I would be skeptical as well if I were you. Anyone who was that sick would be talking about it. You feel miserable with a fever like that. It's caused by a virus.
How convenient that it was a Friday.
Next time she calls out, require her to get a doctor's note from her physician.
She was probably faking or you were misinformed.
Yeah, that's pretty high for an adult. My mom had a temperature of 103 a couple months ago and she ended up having walking pneumonia. So she could be faking it, but who knows. She should go to the doctor though, because that's real high.
I had a 104 degree temperature and even though I was coherent, I could not stand or walk without help. I couldn't even focus my eyes at times. I can't believe she shouldn't have looked like she was pulled through a knot-hole on Monday, if she had suffered from that high a temperature. Maybe a thermometer and light-bulb were involved in getting that temperature reading. I never went to the emergency room, just drank plenty of water and was washed down often with tepid water. It took one whole day for the fever to break.
If you have a 104 temp, you're sick as a dog. I had bronchial pneumonia a few years back, and was admitted directly to the hospital by my doctor because my temp was so high. It's possible to get better over a weekend, but not likely. Sounds like she faked it.
She may be faking it who knows. You have to give her the benefit of the doubt and move on. The lie is on her if it comes out, just sit back and see what happens.
maybe she got better over the weekend? she might have had touch of the flu and felt better to come into work. i wouldn't worry about it unless you're her supervisor?
man by the time a person has that kind of temperture they shoulda been dead or nearly thats immposibble thjat she could have had 104 temp.
a temp of 104 doesn't cause brain damage, but it doesn't go away without treatment either, if she saw a doctor the day she called in and got started on antibiotics, she could be well enough now to work, it usually takes 24 to 48 hours for antibiotics to effectively reduce a high fever. It takes temps of 106 or greater to effect changes in the brain.
So, stop being so assumptive and suspicious, she could have been legitimately ill and sought treatment.
Stop reading and typing goto the doctor now.
I've had a temp of 104.2 before and finally went to the doctor after about 2 days (couldn't drive myself, so had to wait until someone could). Within 24 hours, the fever was gone, but that was due to some really good antibiotics. So, if she's on antibiotics, it is very likely she could have had a 104 fever on Friday and be fever free on Monday. I recently had a fever of 103.8 and only missed work for 1 day. So, yes, it is likely. High fevers do not effect everyone the same. Some people are bedridden with 101 and some are still up and around at 103+. I can usually function normally up to 103.5. Above that, I crash.
no it is not that serious..everyone suffers when fever is high.ya it can go up in a day..but tabs for sweating make it in control.n yes u cant work at that high..n yes always believe ur co-workers or they wont trust u in such case
104 is very high, but 3 days seems to be enough time to recover especially if she was healthy in the first place and was on antibiotics. Also 104 temp doesn't cause brain damage.
Possible, but not necessary. Adults don't get brain damage unlike children, who may develop convulsions with such temperature.
Some viral fevers do go off rapidly without much damage. But, yes, she might have stretched the truth a little more.
at a temp of 104 thats pretty bad. more than likely shes either a. faking or b. she couldve had such a bad fever because of beeing so sick in which case it might have broke and that would leave her feeling pretty decent within a day or two. i guess go by her integrity
I had almost a 105 fever. I was still able to get up a little bit though. It just made me a little delirious and I had the chills and I was very tired. It only last about two days though. So she might not have been faking it. My mom had a 103.6 fever one time, and she was still up and doing things. I guess it just depends on what type of person she is. Like is she known to get sick a lot, or only a little? If she gets sick a lot, that means recovery will be quicker because her body is used to sickness, and then recovering. If she hardly gets sick then her body will be like "WHOA, WHY DO I FEEL THIS WAY?" and it will take a longer time to recover because her body isn't used to sickness.
Anyways, she might be telling the truth. No, you dont have to go to the ER if you get a 104 fever. It could cause brain damage, but not very likely.
